Connected to every problem that faces the world, there are infinite possibilities for positive, sustainable change. Rather than a) sticking to business as usual or b) kvetching non-stop, why don't we grasp some of these possibilities? Do something, change something, make the world a better place.
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
I shared this already on my personal blog, but it’s definitely appropriate here too. You think these peaks are scary? How about peak indium? You know that monitor you’re gazing intently at (unless you’re using a CRT, in which case … just … shoo)? A key component in LCD screens is indium - same with current and next-gen photovoltaics. And indium, a rare element as it is, is projected to hit peak in ten years at current consumption rates. This is why I really want to work on an indium alternative with my PhD research. Graphene is starting to look like an option, which is pretty exciting (because guess where carbon can be found? That’s right. Bloody everywhere). Basically, humanity needs to stop operating with quick-fix tech, and start making sustainable choices.
