Phil Shapiro (Takoma Park, Md.) sent us this video of solar cookers being built and deployed by villagers in Darfur. Amazing to think what impact some cardboard and foil material can have on the health and well-being of tens of thousands of people. via Makezine
Wood and charcoal are so scarce in Africa that using solar cookers are very necessary. By using a solar cooker, an average African family can save 80% of their average energy use. These are also able to boil water so that they can live healthier lives. There are improvements that still need to be made but this is a step in the right direction to help save Africa’s people and forests.
